Pick your team each week
How selection works in your programme: dividing a Mixed JDL age group between Blue and White before families are told on Friday, or setting a single team’s lineup on the match itself.
Selection is one of the few decisions in your week that families feel directly, so Clubhouse gives it a proper home. How it works depends on your programme. A Mixed JDL coach divides one age group between two teams every week, and families are told the result on Friday. That weekly division is the only selection Clubhouse announces. Every other coach, in Girls JDL, youth and senior football, sets a single team's lineup on the match itself, and nobody is notified when they do.
- Selection lives under
Matches, on the fixture for the coming weekend. - The Grade picker at the top of
Matchescan show other teams at the club. It opens on yours, marked · Your team, so check it's still there before you pick.
FNSW asks every Mixed JDL club to field two teams in each age group, so each weekend your age group is divided between Blue and White. That division is the week's real selection work. It decides who plays together, who plays where, and how minutes are shared across the block. Your technical director reviews it for exactly that.
Open Matches and tap the weekend's fixture. It opens the round, with both teams' kick-off times and venues together.
Each team carries a status (1): Lineup not confirmed until you save it, Lineup saved once you have, and Reviewed once your technical director has confirmed it. The line underneath (2) tracks the round as a whole: how many lineups are saved and how long until families are told. Tap a team to set its lineup.
Each team's lineup is a pitch in your age group's format. Fill the positions from the Squad Pool underneath, which holds everyone in your age group's Blue and White squads who isn't on this pitch. That's how you move a player across, or play someone in both games.
Fill every position on the pitch (2), then save with the button above it (1). It reads Save Team the first time and Save Changes after that, and Saved when there's nothing left to save. If a position is still empty, the app checks first with Incomplete Lineup: Complete Lineup takes you back, and Save Anyway saves as it is.
The formation button (1) sits under the pitch and shows the current shape. Below it, the Squad Pool (2) shows who is still available to place.
- Save both teams early in the week, then adjust as availability changes. Until families are told, you can change the division as often as you need.
- Your technical director can review the division and confirm it with Confirm Lineup. The team's header then reads Reviewed by TD instead of Saved by coach. If they want changes, agree them before the announcement goes out, because it goes out on time either way.
- Families are told on Friday. By default the Team Selection push goes at midday, telling each family which team their child is in, the kick-off, opponent and venue, and, where the club has set one, what time to arrive. Your club can change the time.
If your club has lineup reminders turned on, Clubhouse reminds you while a lineup is outstanding, on Thursday evening and again on Friday before your technical director's review, unless your club has changed those times. The line under each team's save button counts down to the announcement, from 3 days until parent notifications, through the hours left (Notifications in 5 hours), to Notifications go out in less than 2 hours. Once it has gone, the line names the round, such as Round 11 notified to parents. Any change after that is a correction families will notice.
Until the announcement, each family sees both of the round's kick-off times and Team TBC. If a team is never set, Clubhouse doesn't leave families guessing: it repeats last week's division and marks it Auto-populated from last match. That's a safety net, not a selection, so set the division yourself. What families see is covered in the weekend lineup answer.
Note: Divide with the block in mind, not just this weekend. Who has been in the same colour for a month? Who is short on minutes? A division you can explain in development terms is one your technical director will confirm without changes.
FNSW allows a Girls JDL club one team in each age group, and youth and senior grades field one team each, so there's nothing to divide. You pick the lineup on the match itself, whenever suits you before kick-off. There's no lineup deadline and no reminder to set one, and nothing is announced: families and players aren't sent anything when you set or change the lineup, so tell your squad the team the way you normally would. Their usual match reminders still go out as before.
- Open
Matchesand tap the fixture to open its pitch. - Tap an empty position to choose from your squad, with players who usually play there listed first, or drag players from the bench onto the pitch and between positions.
- Everyone not on the pitch sits on the bench underneath. The lineup saves as you go, so you can close the app and come back.
To bring in a player from another squad for this match, such as a younger player playing up, use + Add Player at the bottom of the bench. They join your bench with a badge showing their usual squad. The detail, including swapping and removing players, is in the lineup answer.
If you find out a player can't make it, tap them and choose Mark Unavailable, then the reason: Away, Sick or Injured. Where another of the club's squads plays that round, you can also mark them as playing for it. They move off the pitch and bench into Unavailable for this match, and nothing else about them changes. Once the match has started, it's a substitution instead.
The formation button sits under the pitch, and the shapes depend on your match format. A new lineup starts in FNSW's recommended shape: 3-3 for 7v7 (with 2-3-1 also recommended) and 3-2-3 for 9v9 (with 3-3-2). Tap the button to see the other shapes for your format, each drawn as a small pitch, and 11v11 has the full set of senior shapes, starting from 4-3-3 (Base Formation). Changing formation moves your players to the nearest matching positions, so check the pitch afterwards and adjust by dragging.
Your club's own shapes are in the same list, under Club. If none fits, tap New shape to start from the one on the pitch and move a player or two; it saves to Mine, which only you see, and your technical director or a club admin can share a shape with the whole club. The formations reference explains what each shape asks of players and how to make your own.
A campaign squad's Matches shows the championship itself: the draw once it's published (The draw has not landed yet until then), results and standings, in place of the weekly league lists. You set each match's lineup on its pitch in the same way. Trial games you add with Add trial game are listed under the draw in Club trial games, and their lineups work like any other match's.
- Mixed JDL: both teams were saved early in the week, the division is this week's and not last week's repeated, and no family saw Team TBC after the announcement.
- Single-team programmes: the lineup is complete before you leave for the ground, with every starting position filled on the pitch.
- You could explain this week's selection in development terms, not just results.
