Build and present a deck

Turn Saturday’s footage into Monday’s review: choose the clips, shape the deck, present it in the room or on the club TV, and share it with anyone who missed it.

Players remember what they saw far better than what they were told. A presentation puts Saturday's moments in front of the squad in the order you want to make your points: the clips, the match numbers and your own talking points, as a deck you present on Monday and share with anyone who wasn't in the room.

Before you start

  • Presentations is in your navigation, under More on a phone.
  • The footage comes from the club's Veo camera. As soon as a match's footage arrives, an empty deck for that match is already waiting for you.
  • Clips are tagged in Veo, not in Clubhouse. Here you choose and arrange the clips that already exist, so tag the moments you want in Veo first.
  • You can build on a phone, but a laptop is easier for arranging a deck.

Start a deck for a match

  1. Tap New Presentation at the top of the page on a laptop, or Create Presentation if your list is still empty. New Presentation asks you to Choose a match to analyse, listing your matches with video. Each shows either its clip count or Full match only.
  2. Choose the match. If its deck is already waiting, the button reads Start deck (or Open deck once someone has worked on it) and opens it. Otherwise tap Next.
  3. Pick your starting clips. Coach Clips are the moments staff tagged in Veo, and Events are the ones Veo found itself. Select all and trimming later is often quicker than choosing one by one.
  4. Tap Build Deck and the deck opens.

If the match only has the full recording, tap Continue without clips and add clips once they've been tagged.

A new deck isn't a blank page. It opens on a Match Review title slide, then This Week's Focus and Standards to Elevate, your clips, and Positives to Reinforce and Coach's Clips at the end. That's a review structure that works: the theme, what needs to improve, then what to keep doing. Keep the sections that suit your message and delete the rest.

Trial games are in the list too, once their footage has been linked from the match's Video tab, because Veo never links those on its own. Each is labelled Trial match where a league match shows its round, and its title slide carries a Trial match label as well. Trial games and internal matches covers linking the footage.

Start a deck for an internal match

An internal match is filmed training: two groups from your squad in bibs, often swapping sides. It has no lineup, opponent or score, so it isn't a match in Clubhouse at all. It's footage, and it starts here.

  1. Once Veo has synced the recording, tap New Presentation and choose Internal match, beside Match review and Pre-match.
  2. Pick the Squad. If you coach just one, it's named for you.
  3. Pick the recording from that squad's Veo. Every recording not yet linked to a match is listed, newest first, with its title, when it was filmed, how long it runs, and Highlights ready · 6 clips or No highlights yet.
  4. Tap Create deck. The deck opens, titled Internal match, with your crest alone on its title slide since both sides are yours.

Nobody is notified, and the internal match won't appear in Matches or anyone's calendar. If the list says No unlinked recordings from this squad's Veo yet, Veo hasn't synced the recording, so try again once it has. If it says your squad has no Veo team mapped yet, its footage is under a Veo team that isn't matched to a squad, and the teams it might be are listed underneath. Ask whoever manages your club's Veo to map it in Settings → Integrations → Veo; once it's mapped, the recordings appear here. The option is there for the squads whose lineup you can set.

Shape the deck

The deck runs down the left. Add slides with Add slide (1), drag to reorder, and Present (2) when it tells the story.

The slides run down the left in order. Drag them to reorder, and use the … on a slide for Duplicate slide or Delete slide. Add slide (1) groups its slides by what they're for. A match review starts with Footage and Match data; a pre-match deck starts with Our team and has no match data, as the match hasn't been played.

A heatmap slide already in a deck keeps working, but a new one can no longer be added.

Adding a Match Clip opens the same clips, split into Coaching and Events. If you've tagged more in Veo since, Check for new brings them in. Everything saves as you go.

Clips a coach drew on in Veo keep their drawings. When you present, the clip pauses at the drawn moment, the drawing appears, and a tap carries on. To show a clip without them, switch off Coach drawings for that slide. How coach drawings work has the detail.

Tip: A deck the squad will take in is eight to twelve slides. Open on the theme, pair each clip with the point it makes, and finish on something they did well. The last slide is the one they remember on Thursday.

Add a play

A Play slide puts your own players on a pitch in a phase of play or a set piece, so the Under 13s can see who stands where at a corner against Sandpiper Bay before they see the clip of it. It needs the deck linked to a match, and until then the tile reads Link to a match. A pre-season plan can use one too.

Choose Add slide, then Phase of play or Set piece.

Add a phase of play starts with Start from your XI, four cards with a small pitch on each: In possession (We have the ball), Out of possession (They have the ball), Transition to attack (We've just won it) and Transition to defence (We've just lost it). Under the heading, Formation opens on your Starting XI's, marked Starting XI, with the team you're playing beside it. To show a different shape, such as a 4-3-3 that defends as a 4-4-2, tap it and pick another formation of the same size, including your club's own shapes. New shapes are made from a lineup's formation button, not from here. Each player moves to the nearest position in it, and the Starting XI slide stays as it is. Each card's pitch is the slide it adds: your eleven in that formation, the opposition's eleven opposite them and the ball placed for that moment, with an arrow beside the ball pointing the way play is heading. Pick one and it goes in. To call it something more exact, such as High press or Build-up, use the slide's Title (below). On a match deck their discs carry shirt numbers from Dribl: their team sheet for this match, else their last team sheet, else their season roster. For an Australian Championship match, Football Australia's official squad list takes the place of the season roster. The line under the cards says which, such as Numbers from their last team sheet, 7 Sept. or Numbers from their official squad list. The cards are greyed out with Set the Starting XI on this deck first. until the lineup is set.

Under the cards, Or use a saved phase has the same list as the Set piece step. Both steps offer:

  • Draw new, beside Search plays…, which opens the play editor in a new tab (on the Clubhouse app, in place of the deck). For a set piece it asks Which set piece? first. Save the play and, on a match deck, it's added to the match and listed under On this match here, ready to pick.
  • On this match lists the plays already added to this match, when there are any.
  • Add all from this match, on a match deck, adds a slide for every play on the match that isn't in the deck yet, in one go: the phases of play first, in possession before out of possession, then the set pieces. The count is on the button, such as Add all from this match (4), and it's gone once every play has a slide. One undo takes them all back out.
  • The club's library for your squad's format, with Search plays…. Set pieces are listed by restart, such as Attacking corner and Defending free kick. Each play is marked Club, Mine or Clubhouse, and choosing a Clubhouse play saves a copy for your club first.

The slide goes in, and on a match deck the play is added to the match too. Select it to set it up:

  • Players is who stands where. On a laptop, drag a player from the list onto a position on the pitch, or tap one to fill the highlighted position. Positions that match a lineup slot fill themselves from the Starting XI and are marked XI, and a button such as Fill 2 gaps from the Starting XI fills the rest. On a phone, each position has its own menu. Once the match has been played the picks are fixed: Match played. Players stay as they were on the day.
  • View is how the slide opens: Plan, 3D or Player POV, through a player's eyes. On a laptop these are the pills in the corner of the slide, and in 3D you can pick the camera angle as well. In 3D, drag the pitch to move the camera and scroll to zoom, or use the camera controls on the right: tap the arrow for turn and tilt, and tap the compass to put the camera back. Overhead looks straight down with the pitch the same way up as the plan, so switching between them never turns it. On a phone they're at the top of the sidebar. Slower screens and the phone remote show the plan.
  • On screen starts with the Title over the pitch, which is the play's name until you change it. A phase of play suggests the names its moment goes by underneath, such as High press, Mid block and Low block for out of possession, so one tap names it. Then a Caption and the switches: Photos (off shows numbers), Names (off shows positions), on a marked pitch Zones, which splits it into its five vertical channels, and on a play with their players drawn Opposition. Turn Opposition off and their players and every run or pass of theirs leave the slide, on the TV, in 3D and in a shared link, so the room sees only our shape. The steps stay the same, and the pitch keeps its framing. Under the switch it says whether their discs carry shirt numbers from Dribl, or No shirt numbers for them yet, so they show as plain discs.

When you present, a play with more than one frame moves through them a step at a time, labelled Step 1, Step 2 and so on under the pitch. The bar along the top switches between Plan, 3D and Player POV, and turns Zones on and off, while the room watches.

Present it

On a laptop, Present (2) goes straight to full screen, and the arrow beside it has the other options. On a phone, Present lists them all:

  • Full screen presents on the device you're using, with clips playing in place.
  • Presenter view (on a computer) opens the deck on a second screen, such as the clubroom display, and turns your screen into the remote: previous, next, play, pause and mute.
  • Send to Club TV plays the deck on the club's paired TV. The first time, Set up Club TV gives you a link to open once in the TV's browser.

Once you've presented, the deck shows Presented in your list instead of Draft.

Each deck shows whether it has been presented yet. The bin deletes it.

Before kick-off: the pre-match presentation

A pre-match deck puts the starting XI on the video-room screen before the team walks out. It is built from the lineup you have already set for the match, so there is nothing to type twice.

  1. Open the match from your fixtures. On the Lineup tab, the Pre-match presentation line at the foot of the bench panel shows how many of the starting XI are placed and in which formation.
  2. Tap Present to go straight to the screen, or Build deck to shape it first. The first tap makes the deck, and after that the button reads Open deck. You can also start one from New Presentation by choosing Pre-match instead of Match review.

A new pre-match deck opens on a Match Day title slide, then the Starting XI, then Game plan, Our focus today and Clips. If you have played this opponent before, the XI you started with last time sits straight after this week's.

The Starting XI slide shows your half of the pitch, upright, with your goalkeeper at the bottom nearest the room and the player photos as large as the screen allows. The bench sits in a frosted panel beside the pitch. The slide follows the lineup live: change the lineup on the match page, or on a phone during the talk, and the player moves on the screen with no reload. On the slide itself:

  • View works as it does on a Play slide: Plan, 3D or Player POV, chosen with the pills in the corner of the slide on a laptop. You edit the lineup on Plan, where the players are dropped. Choose 3D or Player POV to see the slide as the room will, and Plan again to go back to editing. When you present, the same pills sit in the top bar.
  • Show turns the Bench and player Photos on or off.
  • Add a phase of play after this slide, at the foot of the sidebar, opens the same phase picker as Add slide (see Add a play). The phase goes in straight after the lineup with your XI standing in their formation slots; the lineup itself never changes.
  • The lineup itself is edited right on the slide. On a computer the Starting XI slide opens as the same flat pitch, with a dashed place for each position. Drag players on from the list on the right, which shows everyone not yet on the pitch; drag a placed player onto another place to swap the two; and tap a placed player to take them off. The formation button is at the top of that list. On a phone, tap Edit lineup. It saves to the match as you go, exactly as if you had set it there.

Where an age group is split into two colour teams (the Mixed JDL), a colour team's lineup is the week's team selection, so the deck saves it only when you tap Save lineup, and asks before you leave with unsaved changes. Saving counts as setting the lineup, the same as saving on the match page, and a technical director's save counts as reviewed. Nobody is notified from the deck. The formation is the standard shape for the format. If the week's selections have not been opened yet, the slide is read-only and Open fixture page takes you there.

Once the match has been played, the slide shows the Kick-off XI, the team that actually started, and can no longer be edited from the deck.

Tip: Leave the deck on the XI as the squad gets ready. A pre-match deck stays on its last slide instead of closing, and within 90 minutes of kick-off the header counts down: Kick-off in 42 min.

Names and photos are for the room. Anyone else looking, such as someone who opens a public share link, sees shirt numbers only, with the note Names are shown on Club TV and to club staff.

Before the draw: plan next season's lineup

In pre-season there are no fixtures yet, so there is no match to build a pre-match deck for. A pre-season plan is a deck for a squad instead, so you can try shapes for next year's team as soon as the squad exists.

  1. Tap New Presentation and choose Pre-match. Under No fixture yet, after any upcoming matches, are the squads you can plan for, including next season's. Choose one and tap Create plan. If you have no matches with video yet, New Presentation opens on Pre-match for you.
  2. The plan opens on a title slide and a Starting XI. Its players are the squad's registered players and anyone who has accepted a place in it, and everyone shows as available because there is no match date to check against.
  3. Build the XI on the slide just as you would for a match, then add phases of play and any other slides you want. It all saves with the plan, and nothing is saved to a fixture.

Plans sit at the top of your list, marked Pre-season plan, and you can present and share one like any other deck.

Use the plan for a match

Once the draw is out, create the match's pre-match deck as usual. While its Starting XI is still empty, the deck offers your plan in a strip across the top: tap Use plan (or Choose a plan if the squad has more than one). Before you confirm, Clubhouse tells you what will happen:

  • The plan's slides are added to this deck. Your Starting XI replaces the deck's, and everything else already on the deck stays.
  • The match's starting XI is set from the plan. Anyone who isn't in that match's squad, is unavailable, or has no place in its formation is left out and named, so you can fill the gap.
  • For a single team, nobody is notified. For a Mixed JDL colour team, it counts as saving that team's selection on the match page, so families get the usual Friday message. A colour team's deck only offers the plan once the week's selections have been opened on the match page.

Tap Not now to hide the offer on that deck. The plan itself stays as it was, so the next match's deck offers it again.

Share it

For the players who missed Monday, choose Share presentation from the same options. Opening it publishes the link, and anyone who has it can open and present the deck from their own device with no login. The link has no expiry. The only way to stop it working is to delete the presentation.

So share the tactical decks, and keep one that picks apart individual players for the room. You can't take a link back once it's in a group chat.

What players and families receive

Clips you tag of a player in Veo go to that player and their family too, timed for the squad's next video session (or about six hours after the match if none is scheduled). The notification reads New clip of Nico (or 3 new clips of Nico), From the 3–1 win over Sandpiper Bay SC — tap to watch, and it opens the match's Video tab. A trial game without a result is named as one, such as From the trial game against Coastline FC — tap to watch. An internal match never sends clip notifications. A trial game only does when its notifications are on; otherwise its clips wait on the match's Video tab. The same clips sit on the Clips tab of the player's page for you. A tagged clip is one of the best development tools you have, so it's worth tagging the good moments as well as the ones to fix.

Where a clip notification lands: the match’s Video tab, with the footage and every clip from the game.

Watch highlights and clips shows the Video tab from a family's seat. Using clips in a player's development plan is covered in Develop your players.

Delete a presentation

Tap the bin beside a presentation and Delete Presentation confirms it: This will permanently remove the presentation and all its slides. The footage and clips are untouched, because they belong to the match, not the deck.

An internal match's deck is different, because the internal match exists only for its footage. Deleting it removes the internal match too, along with any other deck made from the same recording, and the confirm says so. The recording goes back on the Internal match list, ready to start again.

Confirm it worked

  • Monday's deck was built from clips tagged in Veo over the weekend, not assembled on Monday morning.
  • The squad saw the deck in the room before its link went to the group chat.
  • Players you're working with have clips on their page that they and their families can watch.
