Recommend who to keep
Give your technical director a retain, release or unsure call on every player for next season, with a private note where it helps. Families never see it.
Near the end of the season your technical director decides which players are offered a place next year. The best input to that decision is the coach who worked with each player all season. The Retention tab is where you give it: one call per player, an optional note, all of it private to club staff.
- Where it is. Retention is a tab in My Squad, between Players and S&C Results. It only appears once your club has switched retention on for your squad's programme.
- Your TD opens the window. Until then the tab says The retention window isn't open, and you can't record anything yet. When it opens, the top of the tab shows the day it closes.
- It's private. Families never see your calls or your notes, and nothing you record here sends them anything.
- You've probably started already. At each block review meeting you give a provisional read on the player. More on that below.
Each player has three choices:
| Choice | What it says |
|---|---|
| Retain | Worth a place next season |
| Unsure | Could go either way |
| Release | Not worth a place next season |
Tap one to record it; it saves straight away. Tap the same one again to take it back while you think. The line at the top (3 of 15 recommendations made in the example) tracks you towards a full set.
Unsure is a real answer. It tells your TD exactly where their attention is needed, which helps them far more than a retain you don't believe.
Tap Add optional note for the context a choice can't carry, then Save note. In the example, the Unsure reads Ability is there; attendance slipped badly in the last block. Your TD reads these alongside your call, so the players who could go either way are the ones most worth a line. Tap edit on a saved note to change it.
Once you've given a player two or more reads during the season, their row also shows your trail across the blocks, such as B1 R → B2 U → B3 R (R for retain, U for unsure, X for release). It's a quick check that your final call matches what you've been seeing.
When you run a player's block review meeting, the meeting includes a Retention view, marked staff only · provisional: Where do you stand on Jack for next season? You'll confirm at the final review. It's the same three choices and an optional note for your TD. You can skip it, and See the whole squad opens this tab.
At the final block review, while the retention window is open, the badge reads staff only · final, and the call you give there is your recommendation. It's the same one this tab shows, so you only record it once. See Develop your players for the meeting itself.
Your calls and notes are for your TD and club staff. The screen says so: They're private to club staff and families never see them. No family is told anything from this tab, and there's nothing on their side that shows your advice.
It works the other way too. This tab doesn't show your TD's decisions or any offers. Telling a family about next season is your TD's conversation, after the decisions are made.
Your calls lock in two ways, and the tab tells you which:
- The window closes. The retention window has closed, so recommendations are locked. If you need more time, ask your TD.
- Your TD decides the squad. Your Technical Director has made their decisions for this squad, so recommendations are locked. The tab adds: They stay here as a record of what you advised.
Nothing is deleted. Your calls stay visible as a record of your advice, which is useful the next time someone asks why a player wasn't kept.
Warning: A player with no call when the window closes isn't a neutral outcome. Your TD then decides without the view of the coach who saw them train all season. Put a call on every row, even if some of them are Unsure.
- The top line reads full (15 of 15 for a squad of 15) before the window closes.
- Every Unsure has a note explaining why.
- No family has heard about a recommendation from you. That conversation is your TD's.
