Grow as a coach
Your development plan is yours as much as your technical director’s. Three conversations a season: prepare for each one, keep your goals moving in between, and agree to what you decided together, all from your phone.
The club gives every coach a development plan for the season, and FNSW scores the club on it. The plan is three conversations with your technical director: a Pre-season plan, a Mid-season review and an End-of-season review. Each one goes the same way. You prepare, your TD completes it with you, and you agree to what you decided. My development is where you do your part, so the plan is written with you rather than about you.
Your technical director starts the season's plans, and you get a notification when they do. The first steps are yours.
- Open
My development. Head coaches and goalkeeper coaches find it in the menu (under More on a phone) and in Settings. Assistant coaches see it in Settings, and in the menu once they have a plan or their TD asks them for something. Goalkeeping coaches open it from their goalkeeping portal. - Rate yourself, under Prepare for each conversation. It takes about two minutes.
- Agree to your pre-season plan once your TD has talked it through with you and completed it, under Agree to what you decided.
The header names your season and your squad and says in one line what happens next, with a button to do it. When your technical director has asked you for something, the line turns amber and says who asked, such as David asked you to write your end-of-season reflection. It's due 24 Oct.
Below it, Your season is the three conversations in order, each with its dates, what's done and what's left. The one in progress says how long until it closes.
Your TD's ask also arrives as a notification that says the same thing and opens My development. If you haven't set up notifications on your phone, it waits in your Clubhouse inbox. Clubhouse reminds you as well: when a conversation opens, 3 days before it closes, and once after it has closed if you haven't prepared. The amber line stays until you've done it, and your home screen shows a reminder too.
For the Pre-season plan, rate yourself from 1 (Developing) to 5 (Leading) in five areas: Session design, Session delivery, Match-day coaching, Player management and Football knowledge. Each rating saves as you tap it. Under Your reflection, write what you most want to get better at this season. Once all five are rated, the section shows Rated with the date, and your TD's comment appears under each area. Your weakest areas are usually where the season's goals come from. Your ratings stay yours: you can change them all season, and your TD comments rather than overwriting them.
For the Mid-season review and the End-of-season review, Write your reflection opens Your mid-season reflection or Your end-of-season reflection: how the season is going, what worked and what you'd change. It saves as you type. Your TD reads it before you sit down together.
Your goals lists the two or three goals you and your TD agreed. Each shows its status (Not started, In progress or Achieved), its type, the due date and how many updates it has. Tap a goal to read the plan and the evidence it asks for, and every update so far, with yours marked You.
Write a line under Add a progress note and tap Add note when something moves: a session you ran differently, a course you enrolled in, a match your TD watched. Your first note starts a goal that hadn't started. Your TD marks it achieved.
Support and pathway shows what the club is putting behind you, such as mentoring or peer observation, and the qualification you're working towards. When your TD shares a note with you, it appears under Feedback from their name. Anything they keep private stays on their side.
When your TD completes a conversation, you get a notification and the top of My development says so, with Read and agree. The conversation opens with what they wrote, such as the outcome and action plan for a review. Tick that you've gone through it with them, and tap Agree. Nobody is notified: your TD sees it on their list of coaches.
Agree after the conversation, not before it. If what's written isn't what you decided, talk to your TD before you agree. If you haven't agreed after 3 days, Clubhouse reminds you. What your TD's side looks like is in Run coach development plans.
- Rate yourself shows Rated with a date, and your reflection is written.
- Each goal has an update from this season, not just the one from pre-season.
- Your season shows each conversation so far as completed, with the date you agreed.
- Once you've agreed to the end-of-season review, the header says your plan for the season is complete.
