Keep workouts on track
When your squad has an S&C block running, the Workouts board shows who’s doing the work. See who’s behind, respect a stopped session, and back the programme without owning it.
Your S&C coach writes the programme and chases the detail, but "have you done your gym work?" lands differently from the coach who picks the team. That's why you get your own view of it. When a block is published to your squad, every player gets a Workouts tab on their phone to log their sessions, and you get a board showing who's keeping up, who's behind and who stopped.
- Workouts appears in your menu only while the squad selected in the header has a published block. If your squad is in the gym but you can't see it, the block hasn't been published yet. That's your S&C coach's call, and in a new season it's normal to have no Workouts until the first block goes out.
- The board is read-only for you. The programme, the targets and any changes belong to the S&C staff.
- If two blocks are running at once, the Programme picker at the top switches between them, each shown with its name and dates.
- A programme your S&C coach sets for specific players, such as a goalkeeping or rehab block, isn't on your board. Those are seen by the S&C and medical staff only, the same way a niggle note is.
Each player has a row, and each programmed session has a cell, grouped by week. Each cell's colour shows what happened, and the Legend under the board names them: Done, Started, Partial, Missed, Excused or Not due yet, and Stopped — niggle where a player pulled out because something didn't feel right (1).
At the end of each row, Targets shows the player's count against the block's targets, and Last shows when they last logged anything. Only the exceptions stand out: an amber Behind, or a green Done once a player has met every target. A player who is simply on track shows only their count for each target, sessions done over sessions set. A row turns red when a player hasn't logged anything for a week, except in the block's first week.
The line above the board sums it up, such as 15 on track, with a count of anyone behind alongside.
Use the Show filter to cut the board to the players worth talking to: Behind target, Nothing logged in 7 days, or No longer in the squad for players who have moved on. The Week filter narrows it to one week of the block when you want this week rather than the whole block.
The Niggle flagged option is for the S&C and medical staff, and your TD sees niggle flags on the same board. On a coach's board it always comes back empty, even when a player has stopped a session.
Tap a player for their detail: sessions done, when they last logged, how they're tracking against each target by today, and a week-by-week breakdown. Their programme also has its own Workouts tab on the player's page, which is handy before a development conversation.
A player can stop a workout partway through and tell the club what didn't feel right. On your board that's a Stopped — niggle cell and nothing more. What they wrote goes to the S&C coach and the physio, not to you, and the niggle count on the player's detail reads None on your view even when they've stopped a session. Go by the cell.
That's deliberate. Players need to be able to report a niggle without it costing them anything with the coach who picks the team. If it turns into something that affects availability, the physio records it and it reaches you as an injury or a restriction, which is covered in Read injuries and training load.
Look at the board once or twice a week, or at the Workouts card on your Home screen, which shows how much of the work due so far the squad has done and which week of the block you're in. In the first week it shows no figure, because nothing is due until that week ends. A player sitting on Behind for two weeks doesn't need another reminder on their phone. They need their coach mentioning it in the same breath as selection.
It's worth seeing the block once from the player's side. Do your workouts shows exactly what a player logs, including the "Something feels off" option they're trusting stays with the S&C and medical staff.
Note: The footer on the board says it plainly: Staff only. Players see their own progress and never each other's. Adherence is a conversation between you and the player, never a leaderboard.
- You can name who's behind on the block without opening the app.
- A Stopped — niggle cell never earns a "push through it" from you.
- Your S&C coach hears from you when the board slides, because adherence is a shared problem.
