Quick answer

How do I use the tactical radar during a presentation?

The tactical radar is a small 2D positional map that plays in sync with a match clip during a presentation. It shows an approximation of every outfield player and the ball, driven by Veo's positional tracking — useful for discussing shape, pressing triggers, and coverage without the camera angle distorting distances.

When is the radar available?

The radar only appears for clips from recordings where Veo's Player Spotlight add-on has finished processing. Tracking usually lands a few hours after the match, so a game you've just played won't have it yet.

When it isn't there, the editor tells you which of those it is rather than leaving a blank space: open a match-clip slide and the properties panel shows a short note under the caption saying whether the tracking is still processing, is taking longer than usual, or isn't available for that match at all.

You can spot at a glance whether a match has tracking:

  • In the clip picker, a small blue "Tactical radar available" banner appears above the clip grid when the underlying match has tracking data.
  • In the session editor, the slide rail and the main canvas both show the first-frame radar tucked into the top-right of every match-clip slide, so you can eyeball the tactical shape of each clip without leaving the editor. While the tracking data is still loading the same corner shows a dimmed, empty pitch placeholder — so you can tell the radar is on its way rather than missing. If you've turned the radar off for a particular slide, that slide's preview hides the radar entirely.
  • In presenter mode, whenever you land on a video-clip slide for a match with tracking data, the radar appears automatically.

Seeing the radar during a presentation

  1. Open a presentation containing at least one match-clip slide.
  2. Enter presenter mode (tap Present from the session menu).
  3. Navigate to any video-clip slide. If tracking is available, the radar fades in over the top-right corner of the video automatically.
  4. The radar plays back in sync with the clip — pauses when the clip pauses, and scrubs with the progress bar.
  5. It stays visible as you move through subsequent clips in the same deck.

Authors who want to hide the radar for a specific slide (e.g. a tight close-up where the map is distracting) can switch the Tactical radar toggle off in the Match Clip Properties panel on the right of the editor — it sits directly under the Caption field, paired with a small radar icon so it's easy to spot. On mobile the same toggle lives in the Properties modal. The radar defaults to on for every match-clip slide; the toggle is per-slide and persists with the session, and switching it off hides the entire radar (pitch, players, and ball) — not just the dots.

What the radar shows

  • Your team's players are drawn as circles and the opposition as triangles (pointing up). The shape difference means coaches can tell the teams apart even when the radar is viewed at TV distance or on a colour-blind-friendly display. Edges are unstroked so the silhouettes stay crisp at TV distance.
  • Your team's dots are sky-blue and the opposition's are red, every match. We deliberately don't use either club's brand colours on the radar — at TV distance, two muddy navies (or two near-whites, since most clubs have white as their accent) read as the same team. With shape coding already telling the sides apart, the colours just need to be loud and obviously different, so we use a fixed high-contrast palette that mirrors Veo's own radar. After a couple of clips coaches stop thinking about which colour is which and just read the shape of each side.
  • The ball is a bright yellow crosshair — four short arms around a small centre dot. The crosshair's arms reach past a player's footprint, so even when someone is on the ball you can still tell exactly where it is. Ball positions come from Veo's tracked-ball signal — the same one Veo's own radar uses — so keeper-held and contested-possession moments map to the correct spot rather than drifting to midfield. If Veo momentarily loses the ball between samples we briefly hide the crosshair rather than paint a misleading position — the next frame almost always recovers.
  • Shirt numbers are not drawn. At 2–3 m TV viewing distance they blur to noise and compete with the dot fills for attention, so we let shape + colour carry the load, as Veo's native radar does.
  • The pitch outline matches the regulation 100.6 m × 64 m shape with penalty areas, goal areas, and the centre circle drawn to scale.

Limitations you should expect

  • Positions refresh ~2-3 times a second from Veo, and the dots and ball crosshair glide smoothly between those samples via a short CSS transition — so the radar feels continuous even though the underlying data is discrete.
  • Referees are omitted so they don't clutter the view.
  • Tracking is best-effort. Occasional misidentifications (swapped shirt numbers, missed players on the edge of camera) are possible; treat the radar as a tactical aid, not a ground-truth source.
  • Older matches may not have data. Veo purges tracking for matches older than ~14 days if our sync didn't capture them in time.

If the radar isn't appearing

  1. Read the note in the slide's properties panel. On a match-clip slide, a line under the caption explains the absence directly. "Still processing" means wait — tracking usually lands a few hours after the match. "Taking longer than usual" means it's overdue and may not arrive. "Player tracking isn't available for this match" means there's nothing coming, and nothing the app can do.
  2. Check the banner in the clip picker. If the blue "Tactical radar available" banner is missing, the match doesn't have tracking.
  3. Look for the dim-pitch placeholder in the editor. On match-clip slides with a linked recording, the top-right corner should either show the live radar or a dimmed empty-pitch placeholder while it loads. If you see neither, the slide isn't linked to a Veo clip — re-pick the clip from the slide's editor panel.
  4. Make sure you're on a match-clip slide. The radar only plays over Match Clip slides — it won't show on heatmap, title, text, Lineup or Play slides, whose 3D views come from the lineup or play, not tracking.
  5. Wait a few seconds. On a slow connection the tracking data can take a moment to load.
  6. Check the slide editor. If the slide's Tactical radar toggle (in the right-hand properties panel) is switched off, the radar is being suppressed for that slide specifically — turn it back on to restore it.
