Follow a match day
From the fixture landing in your week to the final whistle: when to leave, how to get there, the score when you can’t be there, and where the result and the coach’s feedback end up.
Match day goes best when nobody is chasing details in a group chat. The app carries the logistics for you: the fixture sits in your week, a reminder tells you when to leave, the match page gets you to the ground, and the score follows you when you can't be on the sideline. This page walks one Saturday from start to finish, using Milan's U13 away game at Coastline FC.
New to the club this season? Matches stays quiet until the club places Milan in a team and the league publishes the draw, and it says so. Here's how the first match day comes together.
- Get ready now, under Before you start: notifications on, and availability right for the weekend.
- Watch for the draw. Once it's out, the season's fixtures fill the Matches tab by themselves.
- Plan the first Saturday from the fixture in your week and getting there.
- Follow it live if you can't be at the ground, under Follow it live.
- Read the result and the coach's feedback afterwards, under After the final whistle.
- Turn on notifications for Clubhouse. The match reminder is the one that saves the most mornings.
- Check your child's availability is right for the weekend. If Milan is away or injured, mark it and the coach plans around him. Marking availability covers how.
- Matches is in the bottom bar on your phone. Everything below starts from there or from Home.
The match shows up on Home and in the Calendar with the opponent, kick-off, whether it's home or away, and your child's attendance. Tap the attendance to change it. A trial game the club has arranged, such as a pre-season friendly, is tagged Trial on Home and reads Trial match in the Calendar. It runs like any other match day, but it doesn't count towards your child's season stats.
Then, about two hours before kick-off, a Match Reminder notification arrives, about an hour before you need to be there. It names the arrive-by time, the kick-off and the ground:
Milan vs Coastline FC — arrive 10:15am, kickoff 11:30am at Coastline Park
The arrive-by time is usually 75 minutes before kick-off, and the reminder comes an hour before that, so for an 11:30am game it lands around 9:15am. Your club can set both times differently for each programme. Senior players get the reminder on their own phone rather than a parent's.
Mixed JDL families: each age group fields a Blue and a White team, so your row shows both possible kick-offs and Team TBC until the coaches pick the teams. The Team Selection notification on Friday tells you Milan's team, kick-off and arrive-by time. The weekend lineup answer covers every week, including one where your child isn't named.
Open the match and the Match Info tab has the logistics.
- The attendance button (1) reads Attending when your child is in. If you've marked an absence it shows that instead, and tapping it opens the same availability options as everywhere else.
- For an away game, the venue card (2) shows the map, the ground's address and a rough driving time. Tap Google, Apple or Waze to hand the trip to the maps app you already use. Android phones only see Google and Waze.
- Home games don't show directions, because you already know the way to your own ground.
If your child is serving a suspension, a banner on this tab says so, so an empty spot on the team sheet never needs explaining.
Matches is the season's fixture book. Pick the team with the Grade picker at the top, then choose a tab:
| Tab | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Fixtures | Every upcoming game for that team. |
| Results | Played games. The View picker switches between your club's results and Whole competition, so you can see how the rest of the round went. JDL teams only have their own results. |
| Ladder | The league table, for teams that play in a league, such as youth and senior teams. |
| Live | Every match being followed live right now. See below. |
The Ladder's Grade picker also offers Club Championship. That's Football NSW's youth Club Championship: one table that adds up points from the club's U14 to U18 teams and counts towards the club's standing with Football NSW. Senior families see it too, listed with the youth grades.
JDL doesn't use a league ladder, and the app tells you rather than showing an empty table. If your family also has a youth or senior team, the Ladder shows that team's table with a note saying so. If JDL is all you have, it says JDL fixtures don't use a league ladder and points you back to Fixtures and Results.
If your child is in an Australian Championship squad, picking that grade shows the Championship's own fixtures, results and table. Any trial games the club arranges for the squad are listed under the draw.
When the match is being followed live, you get the score as it happens, wherever you are.
- On Home, a live strip appears as soon as a club match kicks off. Your own child's game comes first with Watch Live Stream (or Watch Live when there's no camera), then other club games under Also live across the club with a Watch button. Games starting soon sit under Coming up across the club with View.
- In the match, you get the Live Stream tab when a camera is streaming, Match Stats with the pitch, clock, score and each goal, assist and card on the player who earned it, and Match Info.
- On the Live tab, you'll find every club match that's live. Senior families also get a switch at the bottom, like Show all NPL Men's games, that adds the other clubs' games in that competition. Your own club's games always stay in the list, and the choice follows you to your other devices.
Family overseas can follow along too, and your phone can keep the score on the lock screen. Watching live matches covers each device.
Open the finished match and the tabs change:
- Results has the final score and the match summary. If the coach has shared post-match notes with families, a Coach Feedback card appears here too. When kick-off has passed but no score has come in yet (common in JDL while results are still being entered), this tab is called Overview instead.
- Video appears when the match was filmed. Watch highlights and clips covers what's in it.
- H2H shows how Milan's cohort has gone against this club over the years. JDL teams don't get it, on purpose.
On Home, the Recent Matches card keeps the last few scores close. All matches → takes you to the Matches tab for the full picture.
- You knew when to leave from the Match Reminder, not a message thread.
- You got to an away ground from the match page.
- You followed a game from Home or the Live tab.
- After full time you found the result, and you know where the coach's feedback appears when it's shared.
