Accept (or decline) your place

A retention offer is the club asking your child back for next season. Read what it says, secure the place with the deposit, or tell the club kindly if your plans have changed.

Towards the end of each season the club decides its squads for the next one. An offer is the club telling you it wants your child back, and naming the place it has in mind. It's worth answering promptly. The club plans the next season's squads around who has said yes, and a place that isn't taken up by the closing date goes back to the club.

The screens on this page come from Milan's offer: a U13 player the club has asked back for its BYL Under 14 squad.

Before you start

  • The offer arrives as a notification, for example Congratulations — Milan is retained for 2027 Season, and an email from the club. Both open the offer.
  • A card also sits on your Clubhouse home screen, See you next season, Milan, with the deposit and the closing date. It stays there until you've answered, so clearing the notification doesn't lose the offer. Tap View the offer.
  • The deposit is paid in the app by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or bank transfer where the club takes it. It's the same price whichever you choose.

Read the offer

The offer opens with the club's own letter, then the part you act on. Read the letter properly. It is written by the club for your family, and it often says what the club sees in your child's next season.

The club’s letter, the deposit, the closing date and the accept button, all on one screen.

Under Secure Milan’s spot you'll see the deposit under To pay today, with one important line beneath it: Your deposit comes off the full 2027 season fee, which the club will confirm closer to the season. The deposit isn't an extra charge. It is the first part of next season's fee, and the rest is billed later (how season fees work).

Below that, the closing date is spelled out, for example Offer expires in 7 days, with the date in brackets. If you want to know how the club makes these decisions, Our Retention & Release policy at the foot of the page opens it in full.

Accept and pay the deposit

Paying the deposit is how you say yes. The place is secured the moment the payment goes through.

  1. Tap Accept & pay deposit.
  2. The checkout opens with the deposit as a single total. Pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay if your phone offers it, or by card under Or pay with card.
  3. Tap the pay button, which names the amount.

You'll see Milan’s spot is secured! with a welcome back for next season and the receipt number, and a receipt is emailed to you. The card on your home screen disappears, because there's nothing left to answer.

If your bank takes a moment to confirm, the checkout shows Confirming with your bank instead. You don't need to do anything. It usually clears within a minute, can take up to half an hour, and the receipt is emailed when it does.

Pay by bank transfer instead

Some families prefer to transfer from their banking app. It costs exactly the same, and the only difference is that the club has to see the money arrive before the place is confirmed.

  1. In the checkout, tap Pay by bank transfer (Same price · takes 1–2 business days).
  2. Copy the club's details and the reference shown under Use this reference. The reference is how the club matches the money to your child, so put it in the description or reference field of your transfer.
  3. Make the transfer in your banking app, then come back and tap I've made the transfer.

The offer then shows Transfer on its way until the club confirms it landed, usually within a day or two, and your receipt is emailed then. View transfer details brings the reference back up. If you'd rather not wait, Pay by card instead is still there.

If you transferred without telling the club, open the offer and tap Already made a bank transfer? under the accept button. It takes you back to the same details so you can let the club know.

When you've agreed to pay another way

Some families say yes in person and agree a different arrangement with the club, such as monthly payments. The club can accept the place for you, so it's held and the offer reminders stop. Once the club has set up the payments, the offer says the season fee is on an instalment plan, and View your instalment plan opens your Season fees page with every date and amount. See Pay fees and keep receipts.

When there's nothing to pay, or an agreement to sign

Not every offer carries a deposit. A place in a programme that never charges one, such as a senior squad, says There’s nothing to pay — just confirm it. Tap Confirm Milan’s place and it's done in one step.

Some offers come with a player agreement attached. The offer says so before you act, and Review & sign the agreement takes the place of the accept button: signing the agreement is how you accept. That's its own walkthrough.

Decline, kindly

Plans change. A family moves, a child chooses another sport or another club. Telling the club early is the kind thing to do, because it frees the place for another player while there's still time to offer it.

  1. Tap Can’t accept? Let us know under the accept button.
  2. Choose a reason if you'd like to: Moving clubs, Cost, Travel, Focusing on another sport, Prefer not to say or Other. Choosing Moving clubs asks which club, and that's optional too.
  3. Add a note under Anything you'd like to add? if there's something the club should hear.
  4. Tap Decline offer, or Keep the offer to back out with nothing changed.
A reason (1) and a note are both optional, but the club reads them. Decline offer (2) is final, and Keep the offer backs out.

The club is told straight away, along with the reason you picked.

Warning: A decline is final in the app. There's no way to undo it from the offer, so if you tapped it by mistake or circumstances change, contact the club directly.

Reminders and the closing date

If you haven't answered, the club's reminders arrive as the closing date approaches, for example Reminder: Milan’s offer closes Mon, 3 Aug. They stop once you've accepted, declined, or told the club a transfer is on its way.

If the date passes without an answer, the offer closes and reads This offer has expired. The app can't accept it any more, but a closed offer isn't necessarily a lost place. Contact the club, and they'll tell you where things stand.

Confirm it worked

  • You've read the club's letter, and you know the deposit, the closing date, and that the deposit comes off next season's fee.
  • Accepted? The offer says the spot is secured, and the receipt is in your email.
  • Paid by transfer? The offer shows Transfer on its way, and the reference went with the payment.
  • Declining? The reason you chose is the honest one. The club reads it.
