Quick answer

Medical notifications for coaches: what you see, when

As a coach you receive medical notifications for any player on a squad you're attached to as a head or assistant coach (team managers hear only when a family reports an injury). The notifications are deliberately light on clinical detail — you get exactly what you need to coach safely, nothing more.

What a coach receives

You're notified about the availability consequences of an injury, not its clinical content:

  • A family's injury report — the notification names the player with an Injured tag and notes they've been marked unavailable. An injury the physio records themselves reaches you through the status updates they share.
  • Status changes the medical team share — updates the physio writes for staff arrive with the text they chose, not a template.
  • A clearance — when the physio resolves an injury, you're told the player is cleared, with the dates they're back at training and available for matches. This is the only point in a concussion protocol that reaches you: the steps before it are between the physio and the family, because they don't change your team sheet.

You do not receive clinical notes (internal to medical), or anything flagged for safeguarding (that goes to the club's MPIO).

What you never see

The physio sees diagnoses ("ACL grade II tear", "MCL strain") and clinical notes. You don't. Coach notifications are deliberately stripped of:

  • Specific diagnosis terminology
  • Imaging or referral detail
  • The physio's clinical reasoning
  • Other players' information

This is by design. See Who can see what in the Medical portal for the permissions model.

Where the injury shows up beyond the notification

A medical status doesn't just buzz your phone. On the next session's roster the player sits in the Modified or unavailable group with their restriction text, a recovering concussion carries its GRTP Step chip, and the Injury List widget on your Home screen keeps the running availability picture. The full coach read of the medical system is in Read injuries and training load.

Channels and how to manage them

Coaches receive medical notifications in the Clubhouse app only, never by email or text message, so you need the app signed in on your phone to receive them.

What if a coach should be receiving but isn't?

The most common cause is the coach isn't attached to that squad. Open Squads → [Squad] → Staff and confirm. If the coach is correctly assigned but still not receiving, walk through I'm not receiving notifications together — usually a per-device permission setting.
