Quick answer

Your squad list and training schedule

The Squad and Training tabs in the manager portal give you everything you need to know about who's on the team and what's scheduled — without the editing tools the coach has. This article covers what you can see, what you can't, and where to go when something needs to change.

The Squad tab

Tap Squad in the bottom (mobile) or side (desktop) nav. You'll see the squad list for the active squad as cards:

  • Player photo (where the family has uploaded one)
  • Full name
  • Shirt number (if assigned)
  • Preferred position (if recorded)

That's the whole view — the rows don't open a player page. Availability shows as counts on the dashboard and match cards, and the medical picture lives in the dashboard's Injury List; the player-by-player detail belongs to the coach and the medical team. The list is read-only: you can't add or remove players, change shirt numbers, or update positions. Those are coach or admin actions.

If a player needs adding to or removing from the squad, ask your club admin or the coach. Squad changes flow through the admin portal so the register stays clean.

The Training tab

Tap Training. You'll see two tabs:

  • Upcoming — every scheduled session, ordered by date. Each row shows the date and time, the session plan's title (or No plan), an available/total count, a green NEXT mark on the next session, and a red Cancelled mark if it's been called off. The venue shows on a tablet or computer.
  • Complete — past sessions, each with an attendance count showing how many players were marked present. If the coach didn't take the roll, the count shows the availability before the session instead, so check with the coach before quoting it as attendance.

The rows don't open a session page — the list is the whole story. Who specifically is available, kit notes and the plan's content live with the coach.

Session changes you'll see

Coaches sometimes need to move or cancel a session. When that happens, the session card updates the next time you open the Training tab:

  • Cancelled — a red Cancelled mark appears on the row. The row stays visible so you have a record, but the session won't go ahead. On a computer, hover over the mark for the reason the coach entered (e.g. "Public Holiday", "Wet weather").
  • Time or venue changed — the new time and venue replace the old ones on the row directly. There's no separate change marker in the manager portal.

The manager portal intentionally shows less change detail than the coach portal: cancellation is impossible to miss because of the red mark, and for time/venue changes the row always shows the current state.

You don't have to spot changes yourself. When a coach saves a change and notifies the squad, you hear at the same moment as the families: "BYL U13 training cancelled" or "BYL U13 training venue changed", with the date and the new details underneath. It stays in your inbox, so it's also your record of the original time or venue.

What about attendance?

You can see attendance once a session is over, but you can't mark attendance — that's a coach action during or after the session. If you take the roll on the night, pass it to the coach to enter.

Why can't I edit?

The Team Manager role is intentionally read-only for squad and training content. The reason is straightforward: there should be one source of truth for the playing group and one source of truth for what was trained and when. Letting both the coach and the manager edit the same records creates conflicts and duplicates that are painful to clean up.

If something genuinely needs changing, the right path is:

  • Squad list → coach or club admin from the admin portal.
  • Training schedule → coach.
  • Session plan or notes → coach.
  • Squad-wide messaging → coach or admin via the Communications module.
  • Match-day stuff → see Tracking a live match as a Team Manager if you have the Track live matches permission.
