Quick answer

Tracking a live match as a Team Manager

Full walkthrough: Run match day as a team manager in the guide covers this step by step.

Most teams leave match-day tracking to the coach. If your club admin has turned on Track live matches for your assignment, the match detail page in the manager portal gives you the same live-tracking controls a coach gets — you do the lot, no separate "Start Match" button.

The mechanics match the coach's, and How do I manage a match during play? covers every event type in detail.

How do I know if I have the permission?

Open any upcoming match from the Matches tab in your manager portal:

  • Permission off — the match is a live window, not a blank page: match info and head-to-head before kickoff, the score, pitch and events updating live during play (plus a stream tab when the game is broadcast), and the full result afterwards. What's missing is the timer and event buttons.
  • Permission on — the page gives you the tracking controls. Before kickoff you'll see the lineup builder; during the match you'll see the timer, event buttons, and score.

If you expect the permission and don't see it, ask your admin to flip Track live matches on for your assignment from the squad card. See How do I manage Team Managers in Clubhouse? for the admin steps.

Before kickoff — pick the starting line-up

  1. Open the match from the Matches tab — the Lineup tab is the first thing you see.
  2. Drag players from the bench onto the pitch. The pitch shows the current formation with positional slots.
  3. To change the formation, use the formation selector under the pitch — see What formations are available?
  4. Players marked unavailable (Away, Sick or Injured) appear in a muted state so you don't accidentally start them.

You can pick the lineup at any time before kickoff. Auto-saves as you go. Kicking off with an incomplete lineup shows an Incomplete Lineup check with Complete Lineup and Start Anyway options.

Running the timer

The timer panel carries you through the match:

  • Kick Off — starts the first half clock and pushes the match live to parents (lock-screen Live Activity, push notification, public live hub). A mistaken kick-off can be undone within the first minute via the undo icon by the timer.
  • The red stop button ends the half (Half on a tablet or computer, icon only on a phone). Early, it asks End Half Early? first.
  • Start 2nd — restarts the clock for the second half (Undo 2nd covers a mistap for two minutes).
  • The same red button (End) ends the match.

Managers of senior squads see the same controls with fuller wording (Kick off / End first half / Start second half / Full time). The first half runs on into added time until you end it; see Why does the match clock keep running past half time?.

Recording substitutions

There's no separate substitutions button — the pitch is the interface: drag the replacement on from the bench, or tap the outgoing player and choose Replace. The position swap and the minute are captured automatically. Multiple subs in one stoppage — repeat the flow.

Logging goals

  1. Tap the scorer on the pitch and choose Goal (tap the provider and choose Assist to credit it).
  2. For a goal against, tap the scoreboard, then plus in Opponent Goals. If the opponent's squad list is known it asks "Who Scored?", with Unknown Scorer as an option.

The score updates immediately, both for you and for parents watching the live activity.

Cards — and the JDL difference

Tap the player and choose Yellow Card, 2nd Yellow (Send Off) or Red Card. The card is logged with the minute, and a red automatically flags the player for follow-up in the FNSW disciplinary view.

JDL matches have no cards: the player menu offers Sin Bin (5 min) instead, and the post-match sheet records a Time out.

Fixing the match afterwards

With Track live matches on a squad using the full pitch tracker, you can correct the match afterwards exactly as the coach can, with no time limit. Tap Make changes on the match summary to open the match sheet — one row per player, with a bar for every spell on the pitch and a marker for every goal, assist and card.

Whatever is wrong, tap it:

  • A bar to correct a player's time on the pitch — this is how you fix a substitution that was tapped by mistake.
  • A marker or a scoreboard chip to correct a goal or card.
  • Add for anything that was missed.

See Reading the post-match timeline and summary for the full walkthrough.

What parents see while you're tracking

When the match goes live, parents and players following the squad see:

  • On iPhone, a Match Started notification at kickoff, reading "Harbourview FC vs Seacliff Strikers".
  • A lock-screen Live Activity on iPhone with the live score, ticking clock, and last event. Apple Watch users with Smart Stack see it on their wrist.
  • A notification for every goal: Goal! with the scorer's name when your team scores, Goal conceded when the opposition does, each with the new score.
  • A Full Time notification with the final score. Half-time isn't sent as a notification; the lock screen simply shows half-time. Cards and subs show on the live match page only.
  • The same updates on the public live hub for anyone with the link.

The same updates go out whether you or the coach is tracking, and you get your squad's live score and result too.

What if the coach is also tracking?

The coach can pick up tracking from their own portal at any time, and your work and theirs are on the same match record. There's no "lock" — the most recent event wins. In practice, agree with the coach beforehand who's running the timer to avoid accidentally double-logging.

What if my permission gets revoked mid-match?

If your admin turns the Track live matches permission off, the change takes effect the next time the match page loads — the tracking controls disappear and you get the read-only fixture view. Anything you logged while you had the permission stays on the match record.
