Quick answer
How do I manage player development as a coach?
Full walkthrough: Develop your players in the guide covers this step by step.
Clubhouse provides several tools to help you track and support player development.
IDPs give each player a plan built from their own self-assessment.
- Open IDPs from the menu (under More on a phone). It opens as Development Plans.
- Tap a player under Ready to build, or a player marked Ready to review on the Players tab.
- The plan takes four steps:
- Review — make your own call on each attribute: Strength, Building or Focus area.
- Focus Areas — pick this block's focus, usually one or two and never more than four.
- Goals — one goal per focus area, built from your programme's curriculum. Coaches can't rewrite the goal wording; ask your Technical Director if one doesn't fit. You also write a personal message to the player, which is required.
- Confirm — check the plan as the family will see it, then Submit for approval. Your Technical Director either publishes it to the player and their parents or sends it back with changes.
When you review a player's self-assessment, the short comment you add to a strength or focus area, or when you change a rating the player gave themselves, appears to the player on the Assessment tab of their plan, as a note beside that attribute with your name on it. The comments are lightly tidied for spelling only, never reworded.
Players with a plan from last season
For a returning player, the plan shows last season beside this one:
- Review: each attribute card has a line with last season's ratings, for example Last season: Coach: Focus area · Jack: Building · Parent: Strength. Anyone who didn't rate it is left out.
- Focus Areas: a folded Last season in section lists last season's focus areas, its goals with their outcome (Achieved, Progressed, Carry forward or Not met) and any off-field goals. Tap Carry on on a goal to make its attribute one of this block's focus areas (still four at most). The Goals step builds this season's goal for it from the curriculum, and the row reads Carried on. A goal whose attribute isn't in this season's framework can't be carried.
- Goals: a carried goal shows a Carried on from tag with last season's year. The same tag appears on the plan at approval and when the family opens the goal.
The Development Plans screen opens on a To-do list — a single action feed across all your squads, so you always know who needs you:
- Needs your reply — check-ins, ratings and clips a player or parent has logged against a goal.
- Open concerns — something a family has flagged on a published plan.
- Action needed — plans the Technical Director has bounced back with changes.
- Ready to build — self-assessments that are complete and waiting for a plan.
Tap any row to open the player's plan and act on it. Once a concern has been discussed, tap Addressed on the row to close the loop — the family is notified that you've followed up. Switch to the Players tab for the full squad list.
Open any player from your squad to see their detail page with several tabs:
- Overview — key stats and an activity feed timeline (training attended, match appearances).
- Development Plan — a read-only summary of the player's current IDP, showing strengths, areas to develop, goals, and their statuses.
- Clips — Veo-tagged video clips for that player from match recordings.
- S&C — strength and conditioning test results across testing phases.
The S&C Results tab in My Squad shows testing results for your squad. Individual player S&C data is also available from the player detail page.
When matches are recorded with Veo, moments tagged to individual players in the camera platform sync into Clubhouse and appear on each player's Clips tab. (The tagging itself happens in Veo — Clubhouse is where you and the family watch and discuss the result.) To build clips into a squad review session, see Build and present a deck.
