Quick answer

Reading squad wellness as a coach

If a squad you coach has the Daily Wellness Check-in module enabled, you'll see a Wellness entry in the coach portal whenever that squad is the active squad in the header. This article explains what you see, what the colours mean, and how to use the data without misreading it. For the walkthrough of the coach wellness workflow, see Read your squad's wellness.

One squad at a time — what you see depends on which squad is active

The Wellness entry, the dashboard widget, and the badge count on the Wellness nav item are all scoped to your currently selected squad (the one shown in the header). If you coach two squads — one with wellness on, one without — switching the squad in the header switches which one you're looking at, and the non-wellness squad shows no wellness UI at all. This is deliberate: another coach's players shouldn't be visible to you while you're working on a squad they're not in.

Where wellness shows up in your coach portal

Wellness shows up in four places. Each is scoped to your active squad only; nothing leaks across squads you also coach.

WhatWhereWhat it shows

Flagged players also show a short grey reason (e.g. "3 days low mood") with their name, on the line under it on a training roster, so the why sits next to the what.

The dedicated wellness page

The Wellness page has three tabs across the top — the same layout your TD and medical staff use, scoped to the squad you're on:

  1. Check-ins — a 14-day heat map of every player in the active squad. One row per player, one cell per day, coloured by that day's composite score. Use this to scan for patterns across the squad. This is the default tab so you always open on populated data.
  2. Watch list — players in this squad who currently have an active wellness flag (3 days low mood, 3 days run-down, or missed check-ins). Tap a row to open the drill-down. The longest-standing flag sits at the top.
  3. Trends — squad check-in rates over the last 30 days and a daily average composite chart. Useful for spotting whole-squad slumps or compliance drops.

Tap any player row in the first two tabs to open the drill-down — composite trend, their latest answers question by question, any active flags, and the player's compliance over the last 30 days.

What the colours mean

We use a traffic-light palette in the coach view (the legend on the heat map spells it out):

  • Green (composite 3.5 and up) — Ready
  • Amber (2.5 – 3.5) — Mixed
  • Red (below 2.5) — Heavy
  • Grey — no check-in submitted

Composite is the average of the five McLean items (sleep, fatigue, soreness, stress, mood). It's not a "fitness score" — it's a daily snapshot of how the player reports they're feeling.

What you do not see

You never see the player's free-text note. Notes go to the staff who look after players' health and welfare, not to coaches. This is intentional: it keeps the coach view focused on training decisions and respects the player's privacy.

Using wellness to plan a session

Wellness isn't a script — it's a prompt. A common pattern:

  • Two or more players in Heavy → consider reducing the highest-load drill, swapping a small-sided game for technical work, or letting those players sit a block out.
  • Whole squad in Mixed → keep the plan but skip the optional extras.
  • One player flagged — 3 days low mood, Run-down 3 days or Missed 4+ check-ins → check in with them before the session, and pass it to your medical staff if it's outside what you can support.

A red cell on a single day is rarely actionable on its own. The pattern over 3-7 days is the signal.

Compliance

Compliance is the share of daily check-ins submitted over the last 30 days: per squad on the Trends tab (85% or more is On track, 60–84% Watch, below 60% Low), and per player in the drill-down. Today's count is on the Wellness — Today card. If compliance is below ~60% the rest of the data starts to lose meaning — a single bad day from one of four players reads very differently from a single bad day from one of fourteen. Encourage your squad to keep up the daily habit; the morning reminder notification does most of the work.

What happens when a flag needs escalation

Coaches can't clear flags — that's the medical team's call, made from their own wellness view, so the Watch list tab here is read-only on purpose. The low-mood and run-down flags also clear themselves once the player's answers recover. If you spot something that needs a physio's attention, tell your medical staff directly, and they will handle escalation.

Tip: The dashboard refreshes when you reopen the page — it doesn't update live. If you've just adjusted training and want to see the latest, pull to refresh or change tab and come back.
