Quick answer
How do I handle a postponed, abandoned, or rescheduled match?
Official competition data can take days to update after a match is disrupted. Rather than wait, Clubhouse lets the club update the match status through Match Settings so your squad, parents, and the club have accurate information straight away.
Match Settings is on the fixture in the club's admin area, not the coach portal. A coach stops a live match from the match controls: end the half early, choose Match Abandoned, pick a reason and tap Confirm Abandonment. Your club admin makes any other status change.

- Open the match from the club's admin area.

- Tap Change status.
- Select the new status and tap Next.
- Review the summary and tap Save Changes.
The available statuses are:
| Status | When to use it |
|---|---|
| Postponed | The match has been delayed and there is no new date yet. |
| Rescheduled | A new date and time have been confirmed. You'll be asked to enter the new kick-off details. |
| Cancelled | The match will not be played and no result will be recorded. |
| Abandoned | The match started but was stopped before full-time. See below for the full abandon flow. |
Tip: You can also change a postponed match to rescheduled once a new date is confirmed, or move a rescheduled match back to postponed if the new date falls through.
When a match is stopped mid-game — due to weather, lighting failure, a safety issue, or any other reason — you need to record what happened and how the match should continue. Tap the gear icon, then Change status, select Abandoned, and tap Next to enter the details.
You'll see two options:
Resume later — The match will pick up from where it stopped. The score and all match events are kept. Use this when less than 70% of the match was played, the scores are not level, and FNSW has directed a recommencement.
Full restart — The match will be replayed from scratch. All match events, player minutes, and the score are permanently deleted. Use this when FNSW directs a full replay, or when the match barely got underway.
Important: "Full restart" is destructive and cannot be undone. Only choose this if you are certain the match will be replayed from 0-0.
Choose from the preset list: Weather, Lightning, Extreme heat, Unsafe pitch, Player safety, or Other (with a free-text field for details).
The reason is displayed on the match detail so everyone — coaches, parents, and players — can see why the match was stopped.
If you chose Resume later, you'll be asked for:
- Minute abandoned — the match minute when play was stopped.
- Score at abandonment — goals for your team and the opponent.
If match events were recorded after the minute you enter (e.g. you kept logging while waiting for the referee's decision), Clubhouse will warn you and offer to remove them.
For either type, you can enter a new date and time if one has already been confirmed. If you don't have a date yet, leave it blank — you can update the fixture to Rescheduled later when a date is set.
Review the summary and tap Confirm Abandonment (resume later) or Abandon Match (full restart).
The outcome of an abandoned match depends on how much was played. This is governed by FNSW Competition Regulations:
70% or more played and scores not level — the score at abandonment stands as the final result. You do not need to use the abandon flow for this — simply record the result as normal. The match is effectively complete.
Less than 70% played, or scores are level — the match must be rescheduled. FNSW decides whether it's a full replay or recommencement. Use Match Settings to record the abandonment accordingly.
The 70% mark by grade:
| Grade | Match length | 70% mark |
|---|---|---|
| 1st Grade | 90 min | 63 min |
| U20 / U23 / U18 / U16 | 80 min | 56 min |
| U15 / U14 / U13 | 70 min | 49 min |
| U12 / U11 / U10 / U9 | 50 min | 35 min |
Once you update the status:
- The match card shows a coloured badge (Postponed, Rescheduled, or Abandoned).
- For abandoned matches awaiting a replay, the badge shows Replay in the upcoming fixtures view.
- If you entered an abandonment reason, it appears below the badge on the match detail.
- Parents and players see these updates in their app immediately.
If a match is recommenced (resumed from the point it stopped), FNSW rules require:
- The same players must be on the field and bench as when the match was abandoned.
- No new players can be added to the team sheet.
- Only the remaining substitutions from the original match can be used.
- Any player who received a suspension in another match since the abandonment cannot play and cannot be replaced — you'll be a player short.
Review your squad's availability and disciplinary status before a recommenced match.
A team forfeits when they cannot field at least 7 players, are not ready within 10 minutes of kick-off, or field an ineligible player. The result is recorded as 3-0 to the opposing team (or the actual score if the margin was already greater).
If a club forfeits 1st Grade, all grades in the club championship for that fixture are also forfeited (1st Grade + U20/U23), and vice versa.
Forfeit results may take time to flow through from the competition data feed. If the result hasn't updated, contact your club admin.
